NE News August 2017

A Message From Pastor SarahA Message from the Pastor

By the time you read this, it will be August and we will probably say together, “where does the time go?  How has the summer flown by so fast?”
And, it is true—the summer, especially in Minnesota, seems so precious and
so fleeting.  The gorgeous, warm days seem to fly.

And, my dear, it is also true that we have all the time in the world.  No day moves faster than any other.  No day has any more or any less minutes than any other.  It is our perspective that speeds or changes.
So my thought for these days of August is to engage the spiritual practice of slowing down.  Go slowly.

 Clothes Swap at NE UMC!!!!

Saturday, August 26th, in the

Social Hall from 11:00am - 1:00pm.

Set up will take place on Friday, August 25th, in the evening.

Suzanne Olson has been the coordinator between NEUM and Northeast Mpls Meals-on-Wheels program for some years.  Suzanne recently had back surgery and will be recuperating, so I am taking over the coordination of this very important service for our community. Delivering meals takes anywhere from an hour to an hour and a half, twice a month. One of the reasons it takes so little time, is that the meal prep location has moved from Catholic Eldercare over on Main, to Waite Park Wesleyan Church on 33rd, just off Johnson. Every third month, we have another day to deliver. Obviously, if something comes up, or you are on vacation, you are not expected to make a delivery. We presently have three people that have been doing these deliveries for some time now. I would like so much to add a couple more people to this list.

Please think about it. It is such a worthwhile cause and takes so little time. Either Bill Jackson,  612-834-7987, or I would be happy to have you ride along with us, if that is something you would like to do. I can be reached at  763-789-4859

Thanks for considering.  Marlys Norvell

We've had a great crop of cherries from our trees this year.  Gardeners picked, pitted and froze about 40 cups of cherries for future use.

Also the last community meal had a cherry dessert with several people helping with picking, pitting and baking.

We have also canned cherry jam,  cherry marmalade and rhubarb sauce.

We tried drying some cherries also but we didn't have our class on drying until the end of our crop of cherries.

Feel free to weed and use some of the community

garden producers.
